Fewer steps, chosen well. Why a pared-back routine can be easier to sustain — and more enjoyable.
It is easy to accumulate products. A new serum here, an exfoliant there — and soon a routine has ten steps and very little clarity about what is helping.
A slower routine starts by asking what each step is for. Often, a few well-chosen products, used consistently, feel better than many used occasionally.
A simple way to begin
- Keep a gentle cleanser, a moisturizer and sun protection
- Pause anything you are unsure about for a few weeks
- Reintroduce products one at a time, noticing how your skin feels
A slower routine also leaves room for ritual — a few unhurried minutes at the start and end of the day that feel like care, rather than a chore.
